Mind at Rest

I am so glad that we finally solve the ticket problem.. It could be a blessing in disguise for we have to go 1 day earlier as the price to leave on the 14th has changed.. We’ll be leaving on 13th May and coming back on 12 Jun.. We nearly exceed the one month limitation set by Emirates.. We will have 7 days in London and the rest of the 24 days in Europe.. =) Things left to do is to pay up the balance amount next week and change our cash~~ =)

This really set my mind to rest and has given me the extra perk to look forward to Tioman for the weekend =)

Europe Tour

I am quite impressed at our efficiency, spending 3 days to decide, research and sign up..

We have to give thanks to Zhong Wen and Qibin for sharing their experience in Europe.. Thanks to Yuan Kiat for giving us information for the great deal with STA (20% off TopDeck).. Thanks to the uncle at World of Sports who gave me additional discount on a new backpack (now both poppy and I have a backpack)..

24 Days to experience the Spirit of Europe.. Plus our own extension which is still yet to be decided upon.. There are still things that are left undone and we pray that God will guide us through with his blessing..

The last time I went was in 2006, but that was during NS when I was at Golf Div. That time it was called Asia Aerospace. Asia Aerospace has moved off to HK in 2008 and Singapore Aerospace is here since then.

Dissertation

Should I just stop at GARCH(1,1)?

Just went to look for Prof Tu Yong about my problem and she was very helpful.. Though she does not use Eviews and GARCH, she still made the point to see and discuss things out with me..

I explained to her my methodology is a modified GARCH(1,1) model, where a time varying conditional variance was added to the GARCH(1,1) model.. It was only my wishful thinking that it was just a simple adding of a term in the equation.. She explained to me that for Eviews and MatLab, we have to do decoding and recoding to the programme before we can actually run the equation.. This is tall task as the program is in c code and I have no idea what is it.. I have to understand what does the codes stand for and add in relevant code in order to run the regression.. Even if I get pass that, I still won’t know whether the modification that I made is what it was the intended for..

She did mentioned that for undergraduate dissertation, they don’t require students to have knowledge of programing.. What is required is that we use the methodology and make our dissertation robust.. At least the result will be correct, rather than doing something that end up with wrong results..

Good thing is that she mentioned that the finance paper that I was working on is a working paper as it was published on SSRN.. It sort of means that it is not confirmed yet as the author is making it better.. That paper is the author’s contribution to the current literature.. That doesn’t not mean that it is correct..

After my session, it sort of gotten me thinking.. Life as an academic is damn difficult.. It is not restricted by the knowledge you have on the topic.. It is also bounded by the level of proficiency you have on the programme you use.. This isn’t something an undergraduate can handle and should handle..

Last thing left to do would be to seek Dr Kwame’s approval.. On whether can I stop at GARCH(1,1).. But this also means that I have to make a lot of changes to my methodology and that signify more sleepless nights..

PP: Where’s the FUN?

I stand by what I say, that the fun part of the graduation trip is in the planning..

How can I derive fun from the trip when I feel that it is no longer fun doing the planning for the graduation trip.. It would be great if everyone going for the trip take part in the planning.. With all the discussion about what to do, where to go and how do we go about doing it.. It is so much fun doing something with people who are really interested.. I think the PFM people are like that.. They seems to be more interested in what’s going on in the graduation trip.. I really appreciate this, how can anyone not appreciate that..

Fucking irritating when people can’t decide on anything.. It is even more irritating when they are just “too busy” to have the decency to reply.. Everyone has 24hrs a day and my 24hrs is just as precious as theirs.. It really shows how “interested” they are in the trip, when they can’t even reply a simple email.. Indecisiveness is another issue, but this has nothing to do with that.. It is more related to enthusiasm.. I can really feel how “enthusiastic” they are of the trip.. If it is really so difficult, then FUCKING DON’T GO.. It is a fucking waste of my time and effort trying to get things together.. Things like this says a lot..

I rather not go.. Or should I say I rather go with those who are really interested in it.. I have no qualms about going with a smaller group of people who are more interestedor even going for a separate trip.. I will definitely have more fun planning and going for the trip.. Though some may say it is the company that matters.. I really think it also depends on how interested are those in the company..

I saw a little glimpse of light.. Though I still have not send my regression results to Dr Kwame, I think I know how to use the software, all thanks to Prof Chow.

CRASH

Got into a car crash today @ AMK..

Don’t want to say too much about it..

It’s the other driver’s fault for trying to pull a stunt, which resulted to injury on my 蓝宝宝.. Headlight, bumper and possibly some other parts underneath the bonnet..

Glad that no one was injured..

Will see how the motor claim goes.. Most probably I can claim against him from what I can see..

MIX Gathering

This is the last MIX gathering we had for 2009… We had our dinner @ Nana Thai in Far East…..

Quite frankly, till now I have no idea who else are in MIX… In my memory, I had never seen everyone present before…. CRAZY is the only fitting word to describe MIX gathering….. All the fun jokes, blurriness of weilong, laughing at weird things, disturbing little kids where we could leave permanent mental scars, etc etc…

After dinner, we went for milk tea @ MOS Burger in Shaw House…. After they closed, we went on to Mac Cafe to late… We planned for a short trip to Batam where we can go for spa and activities such as go-carting…. But clashes in schedule left us having to postpone the trip till a later date….
